Our Home
This is a really central London City flat, ideal for exploring London. Location: on the top (fifth) floor of a 1910 apartment block in the Barbican area of the City of London.
With wood floors throughout, my flat is simply but creatively furnished.
There are five smallish rooms, - double bedroom, sitting room, study/2nd bedroom, kitchen, bathroom. Windows are double-glazed and there is gas central heating, broadband internet, TV, DVD etc. Big bed and a good mattress.
East/West, the flat is halfway between trendy Clerkenwell and Hoxton/Shoreditch.
North/South, it’s halfway between Islington and the river Thames (St Paul's/Millennium bridge/Tate Gallery).
PLease note, though - no lift (elevator)! so you need to be OK with stairs.
Our Neighbourhood
Friendly and local - a little residential pocket within the city.
The immediate area has amazing variety and convenience, even for London – there’s a supermarket and daily street market 50yds away, the Barbican Arts Centre 3 mins walk, (including 3 cinemas, theatre, concert hall, art gallery, cafes, restaurants), Bunhill Fields historic cemetery 150 yds one way, a tiny park 50yds the other way. Cafes, restaurants, shops etc. all around.
Within 20 mins you can walk from the front door to Brick Lane, Spitalfields, Smithfields and Columbia Rd Markets, to the Museum of London, the river Thames, St Paul's, the Tate Gallery, and even walk home from the West End in half an hour or so.
Public Transport is very easy - Barbican tube (2 stops to Kings Cross/Eurostar) is five minutes' walk away, Moorgate (2 stops to London Bridge; 4 stops to Waterloo) 7 mins' walk. Liverpool St main line station (Stansted Airport connection) is 12 mins walk one way, as is Farringdon Station (Gatwick and Luton Airport connection) 12 mins the other way. Kings Cross (Eurostar connection) is just two tube stops away.
About Us
I'm a filmmaker, screenwriter and part time lecturer who works freelance most of the time, so I'm often pretty flexible about where I work, as long as I have access to broadband. I've lived in London all my life and love it as a base, but like to explore other cities too - both for holidays and as short work breaks away from the telephone...
