Our Home
Light, cool, quiet, and roomy two-bedroom apartment on the first floor
(with a lift) of a modern building in the lovely seaside town of Vila
Real de Santo Antonio, Portugal. The apartment has a long balcony that
faces onto the large entry courtyard.
There is a partial view of the
mouth of the Guadiana, the river that separates Spain from Portugal,
form the balcony.The centre of Vila Real de Santo Antonio, with its large 18th Century
town square that is full of charming outdoor restaurants and lively
cafes, is a ten minute walk from the apartment. A twenty minute walk
in the opposite direction, through a pine forest nature preseve, will
take you to large, wide, sandy beaches that are never over-crowded,
even in summertime. During the summer, there is a free tourist train
that takes you through the forest to the beach in only ten minutes.
Our Neighbourhood
Vila Real de Santo António is a small town (14.000 inhabitants) on the border between Portugal and Spain. It was built in the 18th century by the Marques de Pombal and is one of the best examples of
Enlightenment Architecture in the South of Europe.
It is surrounded also by two environmentally protected areas: in the inland the Sapal of Castro Marim (salt-marshes), and in the coastline the Mata Nacional (a coastal pine woodland). The town has incredible sport facilities (swimming pools, stadium, tennis courts, etc), all of them near our house, as well as a lot of shops. You will have the opportunity to admire the leisure dock and its sailing boats. And why not a trip to Spain? You can do it by using the ferry-boat that crosses the river every hour to the beautiful Spanish town of Ayamonte.

I am a (female) professor at the University of Seville, Spain. I have no children and would be travelling with a friend (maybe two)who teaches at Seville too.
