Sunny Central Sydney Home
Our Home
The house is a traditional-looking three-bedroom three-level wooden house, freestanding in a former sandstone quarry; car access is at upper level over a bridge.
Bedrooms are on the ground/garden level.
Two bedrooms have bay windows looking onto the lush garden.
The large main bedroom has a queen-size bed.
Bedroom two is average-size, with a single bed and girly decor.
Bedroom three is a small child's room, with a cot and a changing table.
Also on the ground level is a laundry, a separate toilet, and a bathroom with bathtub, two-person shower and heated floor.
The spa-like modern bathroom looks out to a stunning natural stone wall and exotic ficus roots.
The mid-level comprises a large living-dining area, plus a modern kitchen and a balcony overlooking palm trees, ferns and green hedging, with mid-city towers and bridges visible beyond.
This is where we spend most of our time - it is sunlit throughout the day through generous windows on three sides.
The Den is also on this level, with bookshelves, wine cellar, electronic keyboard, TV and DVD player, and a three seater couch which converts into a double bed.
There is a separate toilet on the mid-level.
The top level comprises a covered carport leading into a vestibule, an office/studio, plus a ladder-accessed loft space with a queen-size bed and a couch.
Directly opposite the house is a light-rail station with regular trains connecting to Central Station in twenty minutes via parks, the Fish Market, Darling Harbour leisure district and Chinatown. The train is very quiet.
The French/Japanese garden flowers all year round, and has a dining table which seats eight, three ponds, a gatehouse, a barbecue, and a six-foot-diameter trampoline.
In the spring there are many butterflies and birds to watch.
A leafy walking path wraps around the property, shielding it from sound, and adding privacy and a very green outlook.
Neighbour relations are cordial and discreet.
The house is configured for wireless broadband on all levels.
Our Neighbourhood
Annandale is a charming and well-preserved nineteenth-century 'estate' suburb at the perimeter of Sydney's centre.
Streets are broad, with lots of parks, playgrounds and lovely old houses, including landmark Victorian mansions.
Though quiet and child-friendly, there are many local pubs, bars and restaurants.
We are situated at the harbour end of Annandale, with very quick access to freeways leading to the city (five minutes), Eastern Suburbs (seven minutes), airport (fifteen minutes) and North Sydney, across the Harbour Bridge (ten minutes).
We are within walking distance of several cafés - our award-winning local is five minutes' walk away - and many playgrounds.
Seven minutes walk away is a huge bayside park, encompassing several playgrounds, a sports oval, bike and jogging tracks, and a charming bayside café
Annandale's shopping district is ten minutes' walk away and hosts several restaurants, a supermarket, chic speciality stores, hairdressers, and more cafés.
For more comprehensive food shopping I recommend going to Leichhardt or Glebe, about ten minutes' drive away.
Leichhardt, Sydney's Little Italy, also has a cinema.
Also within reach are Lebanese, Asian, Spanish and other ethnic enclaves, and also Sydney University with its bohemian commercial surroundings.
