Nanaimo a town of some 80 thousand, is located on 300 mile long Vancouver Island.

More about the neighbourhood

It straddles the major highway from the beautiful city of Victoria, the Provincial Capital, some 80 miles to the south, to various recreational ports to the north. Victoria, the largest town has 200 thousand people. The island is covered in forest and low mountains, the highest is 6000ft plus. The west coast is home to some of the last remaining old growth temperate rain forest in the north. Ferries run regularly from Nanaimo to the BC mainland [Vancouver] across the 25mile Georgia Strait. Ferries from the north coast run to the mainland and the home of the unique White Spirit bear[An albino bear] The island abounds with wildlife. Cougar, bear,elk and deer. Bald Eagles and vultures nest locally. Boat trips for whale watching. Miles of wilderness hiking. Swimming nearby.

About Us

Retired civil servant and wife. I had hoped to travel with some of the children [all in their thirties and forties and maybe two teenage children, all who live in Ontario]. For now though we are concerned with just us two.
