Ours is a comfortable apartment with splendid views overlooking a golf course and woods. We decorated with antique Quebec pine furniture.
It's a great base for exploring the region.
At about 1200 sf on the 9th floor, the apartment has a large living/dining area, a well-equipped kitchen and two bedrooms (one ensuite).
On the other side, the building faces Lake Ontario and the St-Lawrence River. Adjacent are the Lake Ontario Park, the Waterfront Trail and the Rideau Trail.
2 bicycles are available.
Commemorative events for the War of 1812 - 1814 are scheduled during 2012.
The old part of Kingston is especially attractive with a farmer's market, waterfront area, many historical buildings, two universities and a college.
In summer, the city has an excellent varied programme of activities and you will enjoy its many fine restaurants and pubs. A free ferry goes to Wolfe Island.
Kingston is midway between Toronto and Montreal and Ottawa with excellent highway, train and bus services. A local airport connects to Toronto (Pearson Airport). Train service connects to Montreal Airport (Dorval), and bus service to Toronto Airport (Pearson).
Recreational lakes, the Thousand Islands, provincial parks and forest, and New York State are within 30 to 60 minutes by car.
At one time Kingston was a French fort, then a British military and commercial centre. In the 1800's, it was fortified against possible American invasion (Fort Henry and 3 Martello towers), and the building of the Rideau Canal (a World Heritage Site).
My wife and I are both retired.
I was an university academic (McGill University) and manager for IT projects. My wife had a busy career as a professional librarian in Montreal and Cornwall (ON), and taught part-time for McGill University.
Both of us have work experience in northern Canada.
We have frequently taken holidays in the eastern United States, Mexico and the UK (including one year in Chichester), and travelled in France, Germany, India, the far East, and southern Africa.
We have twice been lent homes in the UK and Germany and vastly enjoyed the experience.
